Jane
Husband. Marriage. Duty. The words repeated in Jane’s skull even as she turned away from them. She knew the plan of total self destruction was in play, she had seen it all before. She remembered Madame Furon of her old court, who had been found in bed with one of the palace gardeners. Everything had been taken from her, including her children. Even now, Jane did not hear the Furon name without the added lacquer of shame and scandal. Beyond that, she had watched all the plays of horrible, adulterous women who were revenged by the gods.

Perhaps it was this that Jane engaged. Her reputation was already in tatters, she had been offered up like a consolation prize to her kind but loveless spouse, and what did she have to lose. Not once had her husband touched her, not once had anyone touched her in a way that mattered. Other than Veil, but that was completely different.

In spite of herself, Jane felt embarrassment flushing against her cheeks as she walked with the armoured stallion. It was beautiful here, a creek that rang loud with the sounds of spring and birdsong. Despite the fact that they were alone, Jane didn’t think that she had ever felt as exposed as she felt right now. She looked at Vreis from the corner of her eye, and then looked away again.

“What now?” Jane asked, stopping by the edge of the water. “What happens now?” She whispered, “Tell me, am I about to ruin everything?” She turned her head so she faced him, as though she were facing her own death. Her own suicide and ruin danced before her and she courted them like a courtesan, distant and yet willing.

v r e i s

jealousy, turning saints into the sea
swimming through sick lullabies, chocking on your alibis
but it's just the price i pay, destiny is calling me
open up my eager eyes, 'cause i'm mr. brightside

The knight kept his gaze low, peering from his peripheral at the woman walking by his side. Even as she seemed so certain to dance with the devil tonight, if but just once; he pondered if she was really so willing to throw it all away. What horror story was it at home to lead a woman to another man's embrace? That he could so easily pull her from the side of her husband? Abusive? No, or at least not physical of any manner - she showed none of those signs. She didn't flinch away from his touch, didn't obscure any injuries. So perhaps it was a lacking relationship, whether loveless in entirety, or just not particularly demonstrating, it meant he was escorting her to this very place, the creek bubbling beside them as they moved; birds singing through the air.

She still wasn't fully relaxing, even as he watched her, noticed when she glanced at him; when she drew up short next to the creek. Her voice was quiet, a whisper; asking what now, what happens now. She spun towards him then, her voice still so gentle, so soft, facing him as if he were an enemy for that brief moment, and he sighs gently, stepping towards her, tilting his head before lowering his muzzle to gently trace the curve of her cheek, threading through her mane, his breath puffing against her skin. "Depends on your definition of ruin. Personally; if you so wish it - I won't speak of our time together; no soothsayers will learn a word of what transpires from me." The knight promises. "But you call the shots. You want to sit beside the waters of the creek and just talk, and rant, and rave - that's fine. You want a little less talk, and a lot more action: I'll do my best to prove my worth to spend that time with you.

"But, if I can be so bold . . . don't settle in life with what you've been dealt. You wear the fanciest of drapes, likely provided by your husband's profession, yet you're so desperate for companionship, that you follow me away from the safety of those merchant tents.
" He shakes his head briefly, before sweeping his muzzle over her shoulders, stepping closer so they were chest-to-chest, holding her there gently; as if soothing a frightened child, a flighty mare. "But, I think you and I both know what now . . . even as you try to hide behind the imagery of keeping your reputation pristine. You know where this was to go, when you allowed me to lead you away - to privacy, to solitude . . . So, do try to stop thinking, my dear Jane . . . and just live in the wildness of the moment.

"I've learned some of the moments when I fear I'll have my biggest regrets, are the moments that become my most treasured . . . and I'll treasure you well into the night, tonight; if you let me.
" His words were like silk, flowing from his muzzle, even as it traced lines along her skin, following the gilded gold linework that fractured across her dark pelt, the movement slow, leading to the goal; "Tell me to stop, and I shall . . . but; do you really want me to?" He asked, his voice soft, encouraging . . . willing to let her take the time, and as soon as she proved she was a willing partner in this venture, he'd willingly prove he still knew how to worship a woman the way she deserved.

And worship she will be.

Jane
Jane’s pace was slow as she embraced the coming fate. And yet, Vreis was gentle with her, as though he perceived the very vulnerability that she now indulged in. Jane’s heart seemed to race inside her as she was aware of all that was held so dear; so precious and breakable. Since moving in with her husband, she had been nagged by the feeling of constraint, as though some thick tentacle was squeezing her throat.

She felt Vreis’ gaze on her and felt heat rising to her cheeks. He saw this, of course he did. He was no fool, and she was no expert at hiding her feelings. She was simply a girl, in fear of the world that gathered in front of her. So when she turned and asked, asked what it was they were going to do, Vreis was kind to her. He would not hurt her, but Jane knew that. She had known that from the start. But his words made the heat in Jane’s body spike, as she felt their meaning churn inside her chest.

He kept speaking, and Jane didn’t know when he had stepped so close that their bodies- their chests- were pressed together. Jane could feel the heat through his velveteen skin, the sweet and heady taste of spring gathering on her tongue as she felt his words bringing forth some devastation within her. When his muzzle brushed her neck, Jane’s throat went dry as sand. “I don’t want you to stop,” Jane whispered, “I want to see how this ends.”

She stepped closer, her eyes full of the weight that was coming.
