The eerie wail of trees falling to the ground disrupts the quiet of the swamp. The witch watches them crash into the mud, her black lips pinched into a frown. She doesn’t relish the destruction of her bog, but she knows that it is necessary; her experiments require a great deal of materials and, more importantly, the hag needs a place to store them. She isn’t quite ready to offer her wares to the public, and despite her caution (for she has taken great measures to hide her prey, even going so far as to hide the graves with foliage) Yana is paranoid.

One can never be too careful, and the little witch will be much more comfortable having the towering black obelisk standing guard. She pauses her work, casting her gaze across the bubbling green pond and resting it upon the stone. It sits in the exact center of the water, leaning at a slight angle and glistening in the few rays of sun that have managed to creep through the canopy. The runes that are carved into it are not visible from this distance but the witch knows they are there, taunting her like a candy held just out of reach. Though they are newly connected Yana still feels as if she knows nothing about the artifact. It is an eerie feeling, to be bound to something you know nothing about. Someday I shall know your secrets. However, today is not meant for deciphering runes carved into ancient obsidian, and there is much work to be done.

The pounding of her crude tools into the wood matches the pounding of her head as the witch works, falling tree after tree and rolling them into a neat pile. She peels back their flesh to reveal the white bones beneath, paring each skinny body until-

No, she thinks, That was yesterday, before the party.

It seems that her thirst had gotten the best of her the night before, when she was dancing with Corrdelia and learning of her fellow witch's cabin. It is not a mistake she hopes to make again.

The sound of trees falling in the distance caught the stallion's attention, and he was startled for a moment, the eerie sounds throwing him back into the past. Exploding grenades and buildings falling, the sounds of his soldiers crying out in pain, the sounds of fighting echoing in his ears. Panic flooded through him for several long seconds, his body pressing against a strong tree, sides heaving as he tried to ground himself. It was hard still, after all this time, to pretend he was fine after everything he'd gone through.

Slowly, Liam pulls himself out of the terror that was the past, his body trembling as he walks forward, limbs shaky. Sweat prickled at his wooly coat, despite it being winter and frigid. He hadn't experienced an attack like this in ages, and he hadn't been expecting one to hit him like this. Even though he seemed to have pulled himself out of it, little tremors erupted along his muscles, along his spine. What was helping, however, were the memories of his pal, his Bucky, the one who helped him survive everything. It was because of his memories of his best friend that he was even alive to this day. That, and the fact that he'd eventually found Bucky again, though it was no small feat. It wasn't a small feat, either, to break him of the awful brainwashing he'd undergone, but it was worth it. It had been worth the struggle and everything else that had come with it. Unfortunate, was it, that Liam had woken up in Novus without Bucky by his side - the second such world to have had it happen.

Quietly and slowly making his way through the swamp, Liam breaks through a small bundle of underbrush, his blue chasms going wide in a moment of panic - those horrific memories slicing through his mind again - before he shoves down the bile bubbling up his throat. There was nothing to fear about the mare before him. Was there?

She didn't seem all that threatening, but looks could be deceiving, Liam knew that firsthand.

Clearing his throat loudly - loud enough to be heard over the consistent and constant banging of tools into the wood - Liam stepped far enough out of the brush to reveal himself, but left enough room between the two of them to give him ease of escape should he need it. "Miss, are you okay?"

There is a quietness about the swamp today that draws Rhone into it. While he has never much cared for the marshy landscape, he cannot help but see the beauty buried deep within it. With his connection to the earth so strong, it is not surprising that he can feel the earth channeling through him. He uses his magic to grow the moss that hide the native birds from their predators. He grows the swamp lilies that make the ponds just a little more beautiful. And finally, he helps the trees grow taller. It all makes him feel alive. Perhaps he does not hat the swamp as much as he once thought he did.

But there is a sound that breaks the silence, tearing through his heart like a knife through butter. The sound of that distinct crack a trunk makes when it finally succumbs to gravity. And then the tree hits the heart and his heart clenches a bit in his chest. He had never been one who preferred the tearing down of trees to provide supplies for the building of structures. He was a purest. So naturally, the sound of falling trees as him curious. Who is destroying the earth?

And then the sound of banging, the sound of tools meeting the wood. It draws Rhone to it, calling out to him as if the wood is begging for mercy. He can hear the cries of the forest and it beckons him towards the female. But he is not alone. As he breaks through the clearing, he can see that another has heard the crying of the forest and has followed them towards her too. Eyes meet the male first, and then travel to the female. She is dark and mysterious, but he cannot help the fact that he is slightly angry at her for destroying the forest. It breaks his heart.

His thoughts are interrupted by the other, asking if the female was alright. She appeared alright, but he said nothing at first. The bay steps a little closer into the light so that he might look upon them a little more fully. "What are you building that requires the death of that tree? Perhaps I can grow another in its place." Yes, he would replace the trees that had been lost. The forest and the swamp would thank him later for his contributions.
