This keening soul;
Danger is a shiver rippling down her back. It is fingers drawing slow, slow down the curve of her spine.
How she wraps herself in stars as the crimson snow flurries in where their bodies once touched. She is adorned in crimson, the chill of night falling upon her as her starblood fades, fades.
Her skin is sweat slick, she feels as the ocean’s skin might – ever moving, swaying, flowing. Salt is upon her tongue, her lungs are filled with seaspray and still her starfire heart burns, furnace bright and her breath billows like smoke from a dragon’s maw.
Leto drowns the monster in silver. With mercury eyes she turns the soft of his skin to metal and armour. Her gaze is starbright, it glitters in the silhouette of her body that sinks into nothing like the black of the universe.
Ah how is response binds her in chains! She clinks with the weight of them. Shackled by fate and ravaged by wanting and loathing, her lips peel back over silver teeth, bright as pearls. Her tongue rings over each one, but oh her teeth are none like his and her gaze pricks itself upon their every one. Does he know he bleeds her with a mere look?
He turns from her, those words like a noose about her throat. She is the doe he has caught (for she is already tethered – is she not?) and she thrashes within its chafing hold. Freedom feels fickle upon her skin and runs shallowly through her starfire veins. But oh she seizes it and she lunges after him, one step, two steps, three… he may never turn to see the way her teeth bare, her slim neck snakes for him and her hair whips the air sharp, biting, threatening. The air rings, not just with mere bells and clinking leaves, but the sharp clack of teeth as she strikes for him.
Oh Leto is gasping when she stops – stopping herself from driving him away, stopping herself from following him like Artemis upon her first hunt. She turns, at last, away from the sea, away from the swamp and runs, out, out into the star-still night.
No longer does snow cling to her like droplets of blood, but melts in bleeding tracks down her sides.
